Dove siamo? Carini, Sicily, is nestled in a bay along the Mediterranean. When you land in Palermo, Sicily (PMO), you touch ground between the sun-cast skyscraper mountains and rocky blue beaches, there in my father and family's hometown and warm embrace. The air is different here, as my Nonna always said. You have come here to take in the sea, vegetation, Italian (and Sicilian) language, everlasting Greek temples, both secular and divine, amazingly diverse beaches and natural reserves, the caffè, desserts, vino, and tremendous foods. You have as your intimate guide of this island culture a former Professor of French and Italian who is ready to translate for and teach you expressions (and laughs!) along the way! I have led many culturally immersive experiences in Paris, Rome, Capri, and Sicily with undergraduate students at Emory, Eastern Illinois University, and Utica College (from 2002 to 2016). My passion for world history and all I have learned from my family in Sicily is priceless – and contagious. I would love to share my unique joy, as well as the sensory experiences and diverse foods and cultures of Sicily, with you. It is no coincidence that my name, domenica (“Sunday”), means the God-given day to take it all in and relax!
